Questions to reflect on…

When I first answered the questions below, I was like so weird out because we are trained at a very young age that in order to be a “successful person” we HAVE to go to school and be a good student, then move on to a good University and then have a JOB on the career that you went to school for…. UGH!  And no one ever mentions the debt that you/your parents get into for paying all the schooling….

Here are the questions that got me curious in to looking for untraditional ways to be successful and to have a purpose for my life:

  1. Are you tired of your job and doing the same thing everyday?
  2. Are you ready for a change?
  3. Do you strongly dislike others telling you what to do?
  4. Are you motivated by making money?
  5. Are you a risk taker?
  6. Do you like being in control of your life?
  7. Are you one of those people that always get the job done?
  8. Do you enjoy making decisions?
  9. Do you feel that you are creative?
  10. Do you like to think out of the box?

If you answered YES to more than 3 questions, deep inside you want change, you want to take action and make decisions that will change your life for good. You have to have a purpose in life, if you don’t, your life will be like a boat in the middle of the ocean without a captain.

You have to open your eyes, mind and soul and see beyond what you have in front of your face. There are unlimited ways and opportunities to be successful in life, it’s your choice to grab them and make something of it….

Or are you just going to sit there and complaint about your job/life situation……

Carmen

Tools for your product/service

Just because someone doesn’t show you how to succeed in your business, it doesn’t mean you are not going to learn how to succeed by yourself.

You don’t know where to start? That’s ok; just remember to always look for a solution before you get stuck.

One of the best tools to help you succeed in your business is the INTERNET. Some of us underestimate the power of the internet and that’s a HUGE mistake that a lot of us make (my self-included).

Things you can find on the Internet that can help market your product/service….

….people willing to give tips for FREE

….articles and news in regards to your product/service

….different ways to market your product/service

….how to start a blog for your product/service

….how to attract customers/clients to your website

…..etc. etc. etc. etc.

I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed with so much information; all I’m saying is that if you are not getting the necessary training in regards to your business, there is other ways you can get trained.

Start with google.com and do a search of your product/service, then let your mind be open to ideas and creativity and you have fun learning the different ways to be successful in your business.

Love,

Carmen

What’s your choice?

I use to ask myself……

Why me? I use to ask, when instead of getting upset and furious when my son breaks something of value in the home, I advice him to be aware of his surroundings and to be more careful. Material things can always be replaced.

Why me? I use to ask, when instead of getting frustrated at the moment I see my toddler writing on the walls with a crayon, I praise him for a wonderful piece of art he drew on my wall and encourage him to keep drawing BUT to do it on paper instead.

Why me? I use to ask, when instead of getting aggressive and on a defensive mode as soon as my teenager gives me attitude and tries to argue with me, I pull him to the kitchen to help me cook because I notice that’s where he is calm, where he wants to learn more about math, and I take advantage of that moment to guide him and give him advice with much love necessary.

Why me? I use to ask, when instead of giving my husband guilt rip because he is barely home due to his work responsibilities, I make sure to tell him not to worry about a thing in regards to the home and kids. I can take care of both, I am wonder woman.

Why me?………. Well, simply because I am different, no human is the same in this world. Genetically and physically we are all different. Nevertheless, it is a matter of choice.

I CHOOSE to be a great mom, so I look for books/websites/other reading materials that can help me be the mom I want to be. I CHOOSE to learn, I CHOOSE to grow.

I CHOOSE to be a great wife/woman/sister/daughter/aunty/cousin/friend, so I study about being a great human being and how to change the negative impact in my life.

IT IS MY CHOICE, WHAT’S YOURS?

Mr. Dance Machine and wife

Abuelito
Abuelo
Tio Douglas
Compadre
Don Douglas
My second Dad
Grand Pa
Dance Machine
Viejo Loco…

Those are all the other names that my Dad is known as,  he has a very endearing quality and is very charming, he becomes part of the Family (evidence of that is the high amount of fake cousins in my life,) and is part of a lot of inner circles and his own circle of influence is pretty massive!

To this day whenever I go to any kind of gathering I am introduced as Don Douglas’s Son, I don’t mind that’s just how it is. Right after that introduction has been made I just say hello say a few thing and just stay quiet, what comes after that is your usual stories about my dad’s great dancing moves and some crazy thing he  did or said at some gathering or party, he is not the kind of guy that want’s to call attention to himself but he just does.

He is like the most interesting man in the world, but he doesn’t drink Dos Equis, he drinks Venado and Ron Botran!

He puts his foot in his mouth constantly takes it out and tells you how good it tasted, he also suffers from wonderingeyeitis and sometimes when telling a joke misses the punch line completely, (I seem to be the only one to have noticed it though, because everyone else is in stitches before he even gets to finish the joke.)

He is also the most Politically incorrect guy you could ever meet, here are few examples:

Hey el Chinito is here to see you…
Dad his name is Lindsey …
Okay, Your friend Lindsey… El Chinito is here to see you
Ugh..

Hey, your other Chinito friend is here to see you…
Daaaad, his name is Ellis and he is not Chinese he is Filipino…
Oh yeah, Filipino… Hey is he a Mormon?
Why would he be a Mormon Dad?
Well he is Filipino, all the Mormons on Mission Street are Filipinos…
No Dad he is not a Mormon.
So maybe he is not Filipino!…
He then proceeds to question me in front of him, why is it that he is Filipino and not a Mormon!
Calgon please take me away…

I would tell you a story about a former African American Female co-worker, that happened when I was in the Hospital recovering from surgery, but this is a Family friendly Blog!

And these stories repeated themselves over and over again, with my friends who were…

Chinese
Filipino
Black
Gay
Mixed
White
Any other kind of Asian or Pacific Islander
And anyone who was racially ambiguous

But, guess what was the first thing people said when they saw me?
Hey how is your Dad?
And then they proceeded to tell me how much fun the had at one of his parties, how good my mom’s food was and how they loved talking to him. Which is amazing since my Father’s mastery of the English language is almost non existent.

One time he managed to get all of my friends to throw me a surprise party, I still have no idea how he managed to communicate with most of them.

Who you gonna call!!!

If you needed help with…

Moving
Painting your house
Planting a garden
A place to have a social event
General work done in your house
Landscaping
Carpentry
Cooking….

And the list goes on and on, you would call Don Douglas, sometimes (well most of the time) he would drag me with him as a “volunteer.”  he never asked for anything in return ( talk about sending to give.) And he didn’t have to, people just wanted to give back to him so much, he would get all kinds of payment for helping out, from a hug to money and various kinds of goods! I remember that our house was furnished pretty much by gifts that people had given him.

The only downside to that is that some people took advantage of his helping nature, some by borrowing money that they never paid back and assuming that because he was Family that he was obligated to help them get out of every kind of  jam.

But overall everyone was always very thankful for his helping hand!

So you are asking yourselves, how my non-English speaking cheeky father has anything to do with Send Out Cards ?

Well here it is…

He always carries with him a little notebook with everyone’s Birthdays , Anniversaries and every other special occasion, he has a stash of cards and picks the right one for every occasion. Not only that personalizes every single one of them with a poem or a heart warming story or some sort of joke and signs it!

I remember he even had some cards were you could insert a picture in a slot, that was like prehistoric Picture Plus!

So sometimes when people are talking to me about my Dad they mention the greeting cards that he had sent them and how the words that wrote in them touched them and sometimes moved them to tears.
They also tell me how much they miss him and my Mom and always ask me to say hi to him, (he retired and moved back to Guatemala.) He is quite the poet, I think that if he had been born in a time and place were he would have been given more opportunities he would have been quite writer.

When life gave him lemons he smiled… because he already had some shrimp, onions, tomatoes and jalapeños…

So he ended up making some Bad Ass Ceviche!

Never, Never, Never Give Up

The following song is from a children’s program which I enjoyed watching with my toddler. Overall, I LOVE the positive, and encouraging message which children and parents can learn from. Enjoy :)

Never, Never, Never Give Up

(composed by Mike O’Donnell & Junior Cambell)

If you climb the highest mountain

Cross the river deep

Maybe you’ll find it’s never as easy

As it first appears, as it first appears

Just remember not to worry

Or get down at heart

Never lose faith in positive thinking

You’ll be amazed when you achieve

All the things you start, all the things you start. So,

Chorus:

Never, never, never give up even though the going’s tough

Don’t stop trying, when you’re tiring, and you’re out of puff

No, never, never, never give up even though you’re feeling rough

If at first you don’t succeed, never, never, never give up

If at first you don’t succeed

Then try and try again

Nothing in life is ever as easy

But you get there in the end, get there in the end

So blow your cares and woes behind you

Start a brand new day

Nothing can stop you reaching your goal

If you’re determined, you can do it

You will find a way, you will find a way. So,

(Chorus)

Some things seem impossible, answers hard to find

No matter how improbable, you won’t know until you try

You can do whatever you choose it just takes a little luck

So remember never, never, never give up

(Repeat Chorus twice)

Never, never, never give up!
